About
Calm by design, open about the maths
Gallen started with a simple wish: to read your own device's data on your own phone, and understand what the numbers mean.
Our story
Why Gallen exists
[Placeholder: the founder's story in their own words, two short paragraphs]
What we can say today: Gallen works out its scores on the phone, keeps raw data there, and publishes every formula it uses.
The name
Named after a careful observer of the body
Galen of Pergamon · born 129 AD, died c. 216 AD
Galen was a physician, surgeon and philosopher in the Roman Empire, born in Pergamon in September 129 AD. The year of his death is debated; around 216 AD is the most cited.
At 28 he became physician to the gladiators in Pergamon. He relied on direct observation and dissection, and his writing shaped Western medicine for more than 1,300 years.
Gallen borrows only the idea: notice the signs your body already gives, and look at your own data carefully. It is not a medical tool, and the name implies no medical authority or endorsement. The double-l spelling, Gallen, is our own.
Principles
What we hold to
Five rules that decide what goes into the app, and what stays out.
Calm over alarm
Plain words and soft colours. No streaks to protect, no red alerts for an ordinary day.
On your phone first
Scores are worked out where your data already is. Everything else is optional.
Open about the maths
Every formula and constant is written down, with where it came from.
Honest about limits
Estimates are labelled as estimates. Nothing here is medical advice.
Independent
Gallen is not affiliated with or endorsed by any wearable maker.
Your data, your call
Export it, back it up, or delete it, whenever you like.
